Ejiro Kirishima, also known as Red Riot in the anime My Hero Academia is known for being a very inspiring character for many! Check out the exciting journey LarpLikeRae takes as they explain their many cosplays of Kirishima and the learning lessons behind each one!
There is a lot of effort that is put into cosplaying, even if it is a very laid back non-cannon outfit, the art of portraying a character and your love for them no matter the outfit, speaks so much louder and stronger!
Casual Kirishima
"As many know about me, I love to create casual outfits for characters. There is a very big misconception in the cosplay community that you have to have such a big, intricate outfit and cosplay in order to be noticed which I completely disagree! Cosplay is about doing something that you love, that you are passionate about, and finding a creative outlet to show off your passions and inspire others. No matter if you have a cosplay that is huge, one that you bought, or a cosplay that is just casual and comfortable, they are all so very valid!"
"One of my favorite things to do is casually cosplay (not their cannon outfit) a character at least once if given the opportunity! Such as my 'My Hero Academia' cosplays, especially for making skits and fun videos! Each character can be turned into a very comfortable day to day outfit, and letting your creativity shine by adding small details into their outfits can definitely portray an extra little pizz-azz to your cosplay! That's how I first started cosplaying when I was a teenager, I began making day to day outfits inspired by characters (without the wigs or makeup)."
"My casual Kirishima has changed several times throughout the years and keeps growing to be something that I hold dear to my heart! From different styles of eyebrows, styled wig, bandanas, fangs, shirts, and anything that just felt like him! Each outfit, I consider as another cosplay due to how much detail goes into all of it."
Using a blend of colors and working with a very hard obstacle, LarpLikeRae challenges themselves yet again with another cosplay and wanting to make the best of it!
Princess Kirishima
"A cosplay that I knew I would make eventually didn't surprise me when I had difficulties creating it... and that is Princess Kirishima! In 2020, while on the journey of making my Princess Bakugou cosplay, another person who I had never known was also making a Princess Kirishima while viewing the same video! After we both made our cosplays and posted them to TikTok, our audiences were tagging us in each others posts where we were finally introduced. Their name is Shea (Sheasama he/them) and we started to get to know each other! Later on in 2020 while making 3 other princess cosplays, I had started my own journey in making a Princess Kirishima myself, but I was too caught up in comparing myself to Sheasama that I decided to give up since their cosplay was made so well, I knew that I did not know enough to use the tecniques they did. I didn't want to copy whatsoever, but knew I was inspired to create my own version! Summer of 2021 came around and Shea and I both attended my first con: Metrocon together as Princess Kirishima and Princess Bakugou!"
"Years after attempting to make my own and giving up, I found out that my 'My Princess Academia' panel was accepted at Metrocon 2023 and I needed cosplayers to help make this a reality! I reached out to several friends and one of them (Cosmicmoon.cosplays) offered to be our Kirishima of the panel. So I went to work to make the Princess Kirishima cosplay and within 2 weeks, it was finished!!"
"I will say, I did attempt to make things drastically different for my own Princess Kirishima! One of the hardest tasks however were the annoying gears that are placed on his shoulders. It is not the most comfortable add on and literally serves no purpose in the show whatsoever. The only good part about those was that the velcro stayed on longer than my patience haha!"
